Number and Place Value Activities

In Year 2, your child will learn to compare and order numbers from 1 to 100. They will recognise the place value of two-digit numbers, and will be able to use this to solve problems. They will also make more use of number lines and will be able to use less than (<), more than (>), and equals (=) symbols.

Addition and Subtraction Activities

In Year 2, your child will solve addition and subtraction problems involving numbers, quantities, and measures. They will use a range of objects, pictures, diagrams, and symbols such as ‘+’, ‘–’ and ‘=’.

Multiplication and Division Activities

In Year 2, your child will solve multiplication and division problems using the 2, 5, and 10 multiplication tables. They will use the ‘×’, ‘÷’, and ‘=’ symbols to record calculations.

Measurement Activities

Telling the time is an important skill in everyday life, but it can be tricky to learn.

Before your child will be able to tell the time on a clock they will need to grasp how time relates to their own experiences. You can start to increase their awareness of time from a young age with simple activities and games.

Geometry Activities

In Year 2, your child will learn to describe 2D and 3D shapes using accurate mathematical vocabulary. They will also learn to find 2D shapes in 3D shapes, to arrange shapes into patterns, and to talk about rotation.
