_______________

Psst! Parents and carers, remember all of our resources are designed for exploring as a family. There is no right or wrong way, so don’t be afraid to get stuck in and enjoy experimenting. Get creative, play, make mistakes and let children take each activity or challenge as far as they want. You’ll be creating positive memories of maths together as a family – an important step in building a confident, can-do attitude towards maths.

In Year 1, your child will learn about length, weight, capacity, time, money, and temperature. Measurement comes in many forms and it can be a tricky topic for children to master, but an essential one. When children know how to measure, they know more about their world. As digital experiences become a part of everyday life, real-world skills like measurement ground us. Your child should be taught to tell the time at school in maths from Year 1. However, there isn’t much time at school to practise this skill, so practising at home is important.

The key word for this section is measure.
