Number and Place Value Activities

In Year 5, your child will be reading, writing, and comparing numbers up to 1,000,000. They will round large numbers, interpret negative numbers in lots of contexts, and learn Roman numerals up to 1000 (M).

Addition and Subtraction Activities

In Year 5, your child will solve problems involving numbers with more than four digits. They will be able to mentally solve problems involving large numbers, and will tackle longer multi-step calculations.

Multiplication and Division Activities

In Year 5, your child will learn to identify multiples and factors, including finding all factor pairs of a number, common factors of 2 numbers, and prime numbers. They will solve increasingly complex problems.

Fractions Activities

In Year 5, your child will continue to learn about fractions as numbers, measures, and operators. They will now extend their knowledge of fractions to thousandths, and will start learning about percentages.

Geometry Activities

In Year 5, your child will use acute, obtuse, and reflex angles and will draw and measure angles in degrees. They will translate and reflect shapes, and will investigate regular and irregular polygons.

Measurement Activities

In Year 5, your child will convert between metric and imperial units. They will also find the area and perimeter of lots of different shapes, will estimate capacity and volume, and will covert between units of time.

In Year 5, your child will learn to read and create number lines. They will interpret timetables and will solve problems using statistical information from graphs and charts.
